Jessica Steele Design: Athletically-Inspired Design for the Modern Quilter

Welcome to the team!

Thank you for joining me in this corner of the internet. I'm seriously so happy you're here. I'm Jessica, owner, quilt pattern designer, wife and mom-of-two behind Jessica Steele Design.

If you asked me twenty years ago, what my dreams as aspirations would be, I'd tell you being a professional athlete or coach was at the top of my list. The apple didn't fall far from the tree as my dad, grandfather and great-grandfather were all collegiate players and coaches. Much of my childhood was spent at a ballpark, stadium or gym either participating in or watching a sporting event. Although sports were the focus of my younger years, as the daughter of an avid maker and quilter as well, little did I know I'd literally turn into my mother someday.

Fast-forward twenty years and with several years of footwear and apparel product development under my belt, I felt myself yearning for the creative process after a move to a different state due to a job change for my husband. Making a simple baby quilt for my new niece in 2018 opened my eyes to the world of quilting as I'd never seen before.

So here we are today and you're wondering, what is this space all about? As much as I tried to shake it, I couldn't quit sports. I have searched quite a bit to find sports inspired quilt patterns in the last few years as a maker and have struggled to find patterns with a nod to athletics or my favorite teams but with a subtlety that allows the design to easily fold into the decor of my home.

As a quilt pattern designer, my quilt designs originate and are inspired by details found in the sporting world. Be it the hashmarks on a football field, the bases on a ball diamond, or

the letters on a letter jacket, my designs showcase a new take on those elements in a modern way. Not only do the designs beautifully showcase pride in your favorite sport or team, but they are designed to be used and loved well in your home.

I hope you'll continue to join me in 2023 as I begin to share these designs along with tips, tutorials, and ideas to spark your creativity and add to your quilting toolkit. You can also join me on Instagram @jessicasteeledesign.
